I am back home now after a week-long series of meetings in Washington DC. I think I stayed at in the second worst hotel ever this past week.

Oh great, I am typing this in a coffee shop and a guy just walked in on a cell phone talking loudly in Italian. The volume is at level 9 on the stereo.

Anyways, I am back in Boston and fortunately the sun is out. It's rather surreal to know that Michael Jackson has died. It never occured to me he would die but in a way he died probably once the 80's ended in the public perception. The DCA airport was playing Jackson 5 and even my taxi driver to the airport was talking about him. I have mixed feelings for Jackson. His music was wonderful, he was talented, and he paved the way for many other pop recording artists. He also bidded and bought the rights to the Beatles catalog and undercut Paul McCartney for it. Then of course are the allegations of his abuses with children which is absolutely terrible. It's that age old story about the art being more important than the artist. I think the majority of artists would rather be known for their artwork than what they were like as a person.

I have to go back to my taxi driver to the airport. The taxi was this old 1970's black station wagon driven by this elderly African American. The inside of the car had the U.S. flag stapled to the roof. He was telling me he was trying to avoid stress because of his medication. He had the driver side window down and kept saying hello to everyone. The meter maid writing tickets, the construction worker by the bridge, the cop that pulled someone over, the bag carriers, the bicycle courier. He knew the name of every single person and everyone smiled and waved at him. He told me how it was important to be nice to the cops so he wouldn't get any tickets. Then somehow we got in the discussion that his dad lives in Arkansas and used to work for Union Pacific Railroad for 50 years. He remarked he had his dad's old railroad key that was used for switches and that it was worn down because it was used for so many years. Then as we were driving he showed me these laminated 8 x 10 photos of Boeing 747 planes he took pictures of. "I've been across that ole pond 23 times by boat and there is no better way to get around then on these here planes." The entire ride took about 15 minutes but this guy was such a fascinating character someone could write a movie about him. It was like he was straight from the 1970's

A new movie is coming out with Ron Perlman. It seems like it's a b-movie mixed with a Hammer Horror film production feel.

19th century justice has finally caught up to grave robbers Arthur Blake and Willie Grimes. With the specter of the guillotine looming over him, young Blake confides in visiting clergyman Father Duffy, recounting fifteen years of adventure in the resurrection trade. His tale leads from humble beginnings as a young boy stealing trinkets from corpses, to a partnership with seasoned ghoul Willie Grimes as they hunt creatures unwilling to accept their place in the ground. The colorful and peculiar history of Grimes and Blake is one filled with adventure, horror, and vicious rivalries that threaten to put all involved in the very graves they’re trying to pilfer.

Trailer for it is here (you can also right-click save as )

I was at the Boston Early Music Festival today and played several harpsichords. They are amazing instruments and I love playing them!

Here I am playing another small invention for harpsichord in C minor on a Flemish Double Harpsichord that was popular in 1642.
