Unmasked Highwayman
I have been working on getting the mechanical licensing for the one cover song that is on the upcoming album. "Mechanical Licensing" is essentially the allowance of me to do a cover song and release it with royalties to the original songwriter (in this case Lou Reed). I have been trying to go through the Harry Fox Agency that deals with most mechanical licensing but thus far I have come up empty. I have two other options but there might be the possibility I might not be allowed to release the cover song. I also decided to add two tracks from the soundtrack to Prometheus Triumphant (maybe three). I might release a soundtrack compilation album sometime in the future of various films I scored for.

I didn't like the new Beowulf movie at all. The screenplay followed somewhat closely to the original tale but the animation seemed like it was a video game. It would have been much better as a live action.

I am still coughing. I went to the doctors (again) today and he gave me antibiotics. I have a bacterial infection in my sinuses. I am starting to slowly start singing again normally though!

p.s. Happy Birthday to Hermi (my sister) if you are reading this !!! :)

I didn't see it, but I heard it was very successful and I was surprised just from how it looked. Then I realized all the kiddies are USED to that kind of animation from their video games, which is one of the things killing the movie industry anyhow.
So yah.

I am glad it wasn't just me that thought the animation was poorly done. It was very odd that it was rated PG-13, I definitely wouldn't allow kids to see it. There were really violent scenes in it . The whole video game movement (and reality tv shows) is like this push towards media immersion where people no longer want to merely be the spectator for their entertainment but to be in their entertainment. It's a very 21st century thing I think.

Thanks man. Lou Reed I think inspired a lot of modern musicians. A lot of people lift from him without giving him credit (I can think of one music duo((who I won't name)) that did it for on particular song) . So a cover song at least gives back to him I think in some way :)

You might want to try working with a music lawyer. One of my friends on LJ is part of a band who primarily does soul covers, and they just put out a self-released album. I could try putting you in touch with her and seeing how she can help. Also, if "mechanical" = publishing, have you tried going through his publishing company? You might want to find out which firm represents him and go through them. I'm going through this right now for my short film and can comiserate.
