Journal entry: NYC, projects, and December goals 1/3 completed

December 5, 2009 1:27 PM EST Rockefeller Center Ice Rink New York NY

Last weekend I was in New York and accomplished one of my three goals for this month. Ice skating at Rockefeller Center during the Christmas season. I wanted to do it since I was 12 after seeing footage of people doing it on Saturday Night live. You can't tell in the photo above but it is pouring down rain which actually made ice skating a lot easier. More photos from my NYC trip on Facebook.

I had dinner with the director Lisa Stock while in New York. Today I started scoring the soundtrack for a scene in the film. There are also other exciting projects that I will be helping her out with which news on it will be released shortly in January.

There were a lot of things that inspired me in New York. The MET and MOMA's Tim Burton exhibit. If you get the chance to visit New York you should definitely go see it. Images and art is a huge source of creativity for me and I feel like my creative batteries are at full bars again.

I am going to start working on the music for the teaser trailer "STIFF" I would suspect in a week or two. The film itself is still in pre-production being edited before I'll receive it for scoring.

Production of my album will be starting up again this week after being on a 5 week hiatus while I was writing the novel. It will be good to listen to the 5 songs that have been written down with a "fresh" set of ears. If I still like them I will advance to the studio.

My last two goals before the end of December:

Walk with a dog in the park (like this)

Drink port while reading Edgar Allen Poe in front of a warm fireplace.

My novel has been completed journal entry

I finished the 1st draft of my novel! I started November 1st and kept at it every day until now. I spent on the average 8-10 hours a day on holidays and weekend and @2-3 hours a night on the weeknights.

Now I am jumping back into the production of my album and to the two soundtracks for two films in post-production.

Here are some images that inspired me or I used as a reference for the book.

(Amazon Warrior)

(Gun Club)

Writings from the moor

I am now about 67% done with writing the 1st draft of my novel. I should have it completed it in about a week. All month I haven't read any books all month, talked to people, read any comics, composed, clean the house or pretty much anything else. All of which is perfectly acceptable to me because I have been letting my muse take hold and just run rampant like a 5 year old with a pile of Star Wars action figures that all can talk. Having this muse open and free has opened ideas for me about my music. I had several weeks of stepping away from the production of my album and decide which direction the remaining tracks on it will comprise of. If I can devote the amount of energy that I placed into this writing this novel to my album production there will be very interesting results.

So hello from the craggy and foggy moor that I am in. I'll be back in the city of shining lights shortly. At that time we should all have some tea.

Nice review in "Film Threat" about Prometheus Triumphant and they mentioned me! "Lucien Desar's score is also a treat for fans of German Expressionism, with cello-centered numbers adding tension to this warped reality."
http://www.filmthreat.com/index.php?section=reviews&Id=12003

Special thanks to Wisteriax for doing the cello work on the soundtrack!

It had been a wonderful evening and what I needed now, to give it the perfect ending, was a little of the Ludwig Van.

Repo the Genetic Opera

If you would like to see more just find me on Facebook. happy halloween everyone :)

Sleep, those little slices of death; Oh how I loathe them.- Edgar Allan Poe

Halloween in Salem is coming closer and closer. It's like this low drone at the start of the month and gets louder and louder with the influx of tourists to the area. It feels a little like living within a carnival this month.

I have been rehearsing for my upcoming show next month. I'll be performing 2 or maybe 3 new songs that will be on the upcoming album. I have been humming them in my mind on a daily basis which either means I practiced them so much they are imprinted in my brain or they might have a nice hook. If you are in the area I can't tell you what a fantastic deal it is. The tickets are only $5 for three bands. That's $1.66 for a live band playing 45 minutes of music. All the bands playing that night I guarantee will one day cost a lot more to see at larger venues.

Speaking of music this album is shaping to be really weird. I honestly think anyone will like at least one of the songs on it because I am spanning across so many different genres of music. I am going under the notion that the album format is dead and singles are back...

Florence & the Machine just released their album "Lungs" in stores in the United States. Good God! that woman can sing. She is like Kate Bush meets Janis Joplin with Roxy Music interlaced in it.

<lj-embed id="97" />

I am sure everyone will watch Zombie Land this week but the film "The Invention of Lying" releases in theaters tomorrow. I am definitely positively in the final cut of the movie. Except I have my long hair in it (it was filmed nearly a year ago). It's a funny movie and it's classic Ricky Gervais.

Music video

The music video wrapped. It went really well! It's so stressful to direct and be in what you are directing. The footage was done in all one linear long take. The video is very chaotic. Everyone in it that was cast did a great job and I had an awesome crew. The music video will be coming out this coming Tuesday 9/29/2009.

book note

I like this book! . It's along the same lines as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies except it has more sea monsters than zombies like the previous book. It's by a different co-author as well. There is a lot more humor in it and even a little bit of a creepy factor. Well maybe for me because I am around the ocean a lot. It gave me nightmares.

Music videos, a STIFF tease, private screening, and glimmering vampire baseball players

So everything is set for the music videos for the music video shoot for "Babylon Train" for this Saturday afternoon. For a music video that I thought was going to be simple turned out to require a lot of production work including props and costumes. I am hoping it all works and can be pulled off. I am not going to give any of it away but it should be amusing to watch.

I did a teaser trailer for an upcoming movie called "STIFF" for Mad Monkey Productions. Stop it's not that kind of movie it's a horror movie! I'll be working on the score for that probably within a week or so. The film will be released in theaters very soon later this year I think as soon as October.

I also have one other music video "Decayed Events" directed by Jim Towns that will be released soon. It's been nearly 1 1/2 years in the making.

Fantasy director Lisa Stock will be hosting a private screening of Titania - Brother & Sister that will be on Wednesday, Sept 30th, 2009 at Sweet Emily's Restaurant 321 51st St @ 8th Ave 7pm. If you live in the area and you want to have a sneak preview for the film and meet cast and crew you might want to check it out.

I watched the movie "Twilight" finally. I had to because I was worried my vampire novel had similiar traits (it doesn't). Two comments - Vampires that glimmer in the sunlight? AND they play baseball? WTH?

It’s Saturday morning and I am drinking freshly ground vanilla coffee.

The pre-production work for the music video “Babylon Train” is coming along well. I still have one actress left to cast for it. I hope shooting date of it goes well. I purposely made it as simplistic shoot, unlike the previous one, because I don’t want a production that lasts for a year again.

I must confess I like directing.

I saw Tori Amos in concert this past week. It was held at the Bank Of America Pavilion by the waterfront. It was about 95 degrees that night but I still enjoyed the show. Her performance had a lot of crazed energy in it that reminded me a little of Janis Joplin.

I watched the movie Coraline again last night and I adore the music for it so much. The composer Bruno Coulais is a genius.

My friend Mike pointed me out to a 12 year old director,Emily Hagins, that did a
full-length feature zombie film. Which is a huge amount of work even for an adult let alone for a 12 year old girl. There was a documentary done on her called Zombie Girl which talks about the making of the film. There is hope for today's youth :)
