BARACK, CLINTON, FOURCORNERS

  • May. 14th, 2008 at 11:41 AM

Question: We all know that Barack Obama is going to be OUR next President of the United States, so, should Obama pick Hillary Clinton as Vice President? Why?

IT'S THANK YOU TIME AGAIN!

What a wonderful and touching surprise when [info]fourcorners sent me for Valentine's Day, this very pretty little box which contained this lovely heart inside (hope it's his 'cuz I'm keeping it forever!), and this candle which smells sooo very nice! Late at night, while I'm working on my computer, I turn off the lights and light the candle for just a tiny little while, because I want it to last me for as long as possible!

Not too long ago, [info]fourcorners wrote a story for me, which I have in one of my web sites, and it was excellent! He is extremely talented, and I hope he'll one day write a love and romance book. I seriously believe it would be a best seller!

Thank you (S), from the bottom of my heart!

Painting for Sale! Fert update

  • May. 14th, 2008 at 11:56 AM

I just got this painting back from London! I was told it was very well liked. I snapped a quick pic of it framed and hanging. The gallery price is $1800 but I'm having a big sale to help with Theda expenses so I'm asking just $500 for it here: http://tinaimel.com/Youthiswastedstore.htm shipping is free.

Today is going much better than we expected. Pete made a spread sheet so we can keep track of all of her meds. She's eating good, is chipper and alert and comfortably sleeping on my very favorite blanket which is now her very favorite blanket. She spent the morning in a sack around my neck, munching on yogurt and chicken after having all her medicine. She seems to really enjoying chillin in my purse so I'll probably take her for a walk after dinner if she's up to it.

I want to really thank everyone for sympathizing with me. It definitely helps to have people who've been through this and understand how very painful it is.

Love,

Tina

Peter Lorre

  • May. 14th, 2008 at 10:21 AM
Many years ago at a University film festival I saw a Peter Lorre film which was of unusually superior quality (or so I recall).

It was filmed in German and must have been made in the late 1940s or 190s. He played a psychiatrist at an asylum, but was himself fighting a psychotic compulsion to become a serial killer. My memory is that Lorre directed it also. I do not, unfortunately, recall the title.

To judge from the synopsis on IMDB, it is not The Lost One (made in Germany in 1951) which is the only directing credit listed there for him.

Does anyone recognize this film?

I managed to get through an entire dance class last night going up on my toes every time it was called for!  And pivoting!  We were working on arabesque steps, too!  I am paying for it today but I am so glad to know that I have it in me.  I was so happy from that alone that I felt like I was floating, I'm sure that feeling helped my arabesques no end ;-)

I've been re-watching Akira Kurasawa's Dreams over the last week or so.  Every director I like should put out collections of short films that you can watch in small increments.  I probably hadn't seen it since it came out in 1990 (god, was that really 18 years ago!?!) but I found I remembered several of the short films so clearly, notably the one about the peach orchard and the tunnel.  The very Japanese theme of humanity messing up the world and destroying itself through lack of respect for nature got a little old by the end of the collection, but every shot was beautiful and the colors were astounding.  The action was perfectly dreamlike; things that would make little sense in reality made perfect, if sometimes awful, sense in the dreams, like trying to fan away radioactive clouds with one's jacket.  Pretty sure I had dreams myself about the mutant cannibal demons, who were so dreadfully artistic in their torments.  I liked the strong elements of Japanese folklore, like the foxes' wedding procession and the snow fairy, but I don't know to what extent those were real pieces of folklore and to what extent they were filtered through a dreaming state into something else.  The films so perfectly captured the feeling of dreams that it is impossible for a non-native to tell.

I really want some ferrets.

Last Post, I Swear!.....

  • May. 14th, 2008 at 10:22 AM
Last night I saw 'Iron Man' with [info]feather_brain70 and [info]pat_man_ta. It was a good movie. I would recommend seeing it even if you haven't read any of the comics like I never did. The movie was fun, kept a good pace, and had some pretty cool special effects. At the end of the movie the boys had decided that they wanted an Iron Man suit. As for me, I just want Jarvis and the two helper bots. If you've seen the movie you know what I’m talking about. If you haven't, then I won't spoil it for you! Go see the movie and then we'll talk about Jarvis and company.

I'm doing very well with my diet and exercising. I'm happy with myself. Though being a perfectionist, there is always something I'm telling myself I can improve on. I’m very proud of the fact that I've added a 3 pound weight to my sit up routine for both upper and lower abdominals. Go me! My legs are starting to show some serious results and so is my tummy. My back is becoming quite shapely too. I'm excited and happy about all of it! Tonight's fliering and tomorrow night's fliering will help not only the club nights along, but hopefully it will help my big fat butt too!

The Rob Update….

  • May. 14th, 2008 at 10:12 AM
We have a fly home date for Rob now. It's May 19th. I got word over the weekend, but didn't post because I was afraid it would change again. It has changed several times, but this time the 19th is set. Rob is currently in a "safe zone" in Kuwait.

I'm not sure if he'll be in town for Memorial Day Weekend or not. It will depend upon how long his debriefing is. He has to fly back to the base he is stationed at in South Carolina before he can come home. I do know that he will be home until July 6th. I'm not sure where he will be stationed or deployed after the 6th of July.

I can't wait to have him home. He tells us that he is in a "safe zone", but as far as I'm concerned the only "safe zone" for him is by my side.
At "HEROES" on Saturday night we celebrated Cinco de Mayo!  Here's me wearing one of the tissue paper flowers I made for the event.

Pocket Watch Wrist Watch

  • May. 13th, 2008 at 11:52 PM
I just found this on eBay.  I love this idea of using a pocket watch as a wrist watch.  It's like the first wrist watch.  It says the watch is a wind up.  Even better.

Here's the link.   Lots more photos.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Seems you're pushing to learn all you can from
places and ideas you barely even know existed a few months ago. Your
experiments continue to provide such valuable lessons that you'd rather
not wrap them up yet. That's fine. No rush. Take your time. We here at
the Grind will welcome you back anytime you're ready. We completely
understand if you want to stay out there on a limb until you're absolutely
sure that the butterfly won't have any reason to try changing back into a
caterpillar.

Finally into APRIL!!!

  • May. 13th, 2008 at 11:39 PM
I'm so far behind that I'm not even sure why I'm posting these. Still, if you scroll down far enough, there's a comic with an actual photo of Vin Diesel in it. I'm not even kidding. It's there. Seriously. Just keep scrolling.

Wow, looking back, March was pretty nice. Definitely not the shit-fest that April (and May?) became. Good times, good times. At the rate I'm going, you'll read about April next month!

Met Crispin in Chandler, AZ

  • May. 13th, 2008 at 7:15 PM
Hey all, I don't post here much but I've been watching the community for years, and I finally got a chance to meet Crispin the other day and see What is it?, and I thought I'd post about it here.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

More under the cut )

Not much to say about Crispin that hasn't been said elsewhere; he was gracious, well-spoken, good-tempered, patient, polite, genuine, and, of course, intelligent. He was very kind, took lots of time out for each person in line for an autograph, and answered the audiences questions late into the night. (The show started at 7PM and I didn't leave until after midnight, immediately after meeting him. Who knows when he finally got to leave.)

I'm convinced he should be left-handed, not only because of his famously strange hand-writing, but also because he holds his pen a bit awkwardly, like a lefty, but in his right hand.

The film was quite something, but I enjoyed his slideshow even more. Some of the stories were hilarious, and his reading of them was intoxicating. I sometimes think people are starved for good old-fashioned storytelling - not a story, not a song, not a movie, just one person up in front telling you everything, so his slideshow was incredibly satisfying and I look forward to seeing it again when he comes back to Chandler for the rest of the trilogy, which he assured us he would.

Not much else to say. He was great, and I'm very glad to have met him. He'd probably appreciate me passing on the information that if you join his MySpace, you'll get notified as to when he's in town with the film.

Anyway, mostly I just felt like sharing the pictures with you all. I didn't get one with Crispin because he seemed really tired and, well, I've looked better than I do currently and my ego wouldn't be too happy to see just how pudgy I look next to him. ;)

Enjoy the photos, though, and if you get a chance, definitely go to see his slideshow someday.
